Google bought the Bolands Mill site for €300 million and 10% of the accommodation was supposed to be allocated for social housing.
But Dublin City Council have just done a deal with the developer so they don’t have to take anyone from the housing list. Instead, the council will buy just three units elsewhere.
This is the latest form of social apartheid. For years Dublin City Council used the excuse that they wanted more ‘social mix’ to get out of building big council housing estates.
But the latest move shows their hypocrisy. They do not want local Ringsenders mixing with the Google people.
We need to get rid of the top management of Dublin City Council who don’t want to build social housing. We need to elect councilors who will stand up to them – and not become their lackeys.
